The richness, variety and conceptual nature of Síntesis have made them one of the most emblematic groups in contemporary Cuban music and one of the island’s most well-known and popular. Throughout their history, the group has created their own style, blending their Afro-Cuban roots with strains of jazz and rock to create a unique style that has caught the attention of critics and public alike.
Síntesis have spent several years conveying the traditions of the descendants of Africans from the Yuruba culture to Cuba and the world. With more than 60 international tours and 13 albums under their belts, as well as nominations for the Latin Grammys, the group has played their mix of ethno-fusion at different venues in Latin America, North America and Europe. Director Carlos Alfonso Valdés, has descried the group as “a band of musicians whose aim is to constantly outdo themselves, not stuck in a rut but rather reinventing themselves and open to all musical tendencies, with a generational, cultural and ethnic commitment, no formalities and a contemporary style”.
