La Chueca

La compañía

La Chueca Theater Company aims to create theatrical and audiovisual pieces that give voice and visibility to minorities and disadvantaged groups, with special attention to women and LGTBQA+ dissidents.

This company is composed of Hitzka Nudelman, a Chilean actress, and Teresa Gómez, a Spanish-American activist. We are committed to multiculturalism, therefore our team has Chilean, Spanish, and American roots.

We want to aim at all types of audiences since we are moved by the conviction that representation saves lives, we do it with the aim of making as many people as possible aware of important issues such as discrimination and invisibility that the LGTBQA+ community constantly suffers, in different contexts throughout history; and also, for those who still do not do it and still think in a backward way, begin to normalize the existence of the community.

Our first play called Antes de morir quiero conocer el cielo addresses hate crimes suffered by the community, particularly lesbicides, based on a real case of a lesbian murdered because of being a lesbian in Chile.

A play about epic, lesbian and homosexual love that mutates, is protected, and imagined, during and after the Chilean dictatorship. The queerness is what brings out each scene, set in the most extreme points of violence inflicted from one human being to another.
Y,Y,Y,Y,Y,Y. is a work about the beauty of language, its ways to keep us alive, to turn us to tenderness between sexual extractivism and torture.
From a diver in the abyss of Mariana de Trench, the lowest point in the ocean on earth, to two women mentioning the things they love so they can forget and protect each other, in case they are found.
It is an exercise that does not have enough words to speak of disappearance. It declares the failure of language in the face of violence. And it is, as the title indicates, the separation between one word and another, between one subject and another, the AND*, the safe space in which we can imagine other futures.
