When the white snake becomes a fairy after practicing Taoism, she falls in love with Guizhi Arhat, who serves Buddha in the Western Paradise. They violate the rules, and Guizhi Arhat is demoted to a mortal named Xu Xian. The imprisoned white snake breaks the chains to find Xu Xian in the secular world, and they eventually marry. Buddha refuses to surrender and sends Fahai and the toad who guarded the white snake to hunt it in the secular world.
