It could just be a simple story of futuristic love: a robot about to become obsolete falls in love with an expert in robotics and tries to win her over with love songs. However, in the hands of the graphic novelist, musician and world-renowned DJ Kid Koala and the director K.K. Barrett – known for his work on movies by Sofia Coppola and Spike Jonze – this romantic tale turns into something unique: puppets, miniature scenes, filming in real time and live music breathe life into an original and multidisciplinary show that brings the graphic novel Nufonia Must Fall, published by Kid Koala in 2003, to life. The characters – moved by puppeteers – are in 17 small boxes and are filmed live with the images projected onto a giant screen for the public to see. Cinema, theater and music – by Kid Koala and a string quartet – all merge in this show to create a kind of moving comic strip full of adventure, drama and romance in a poignant tribute to silent cinema and the world of comics.
